BRIGHTON EDIT: COSMOPOLITAN CULTURE RULES BESIDE THE SEASIDE
Brighton is arguably one of the most iconic seaside destinations on the South Coast. Made fashionable by the Prince Regent, later to be King George IV. It is said that this was his favourite place to take his mistress, Maria Fitzherbert. They spent much of their time dazzling the fashionable society there, with the Prince residing in the extravagant and eccentrically styled, Brighton Pavilion. The Pavilion was designed by John Nash in the early 19th century and takes influence from Indian palaces such as the Taj Mahal. These days there are tours to showcase the pavilions Indian and Chinese style interiors with much of its two-hundred-year-old charm still intact.
You can see the Kings influence in not only the stunning parks and Georgian architecture, but also in Brighton’s bohemian attitude. Its trendy vibe, party scene and 50-mile commute to London make it a popular destination for a weekend break.
Brighton also holds the unofficial title of LGBTQ capital of the UK, this fabulous moniker comes to life every August with the most amazing Pride Festival the UK has ever seen. Most of the roads are shut off and the concert and procession get better year on year. It is not to be missed.
When I think of Brighton, one of the first things that comes to mind is candyfloss or a stick of rock being enjoyed on the legendary Brighton Pier. There is so much to do, from stepping out onto the new British Airways viewing tower - the i360 or visiting the Sea Life centre, which is the world’s oldest working aquarium, to scouring the independent boutiques and narrow streets of the infamous Lanes. This city is anything but shy and one thing is for sure – you won’t get bored.
Brighton has long been a cultural hub for the artistic or innovative creative types, and this is ever more apparent by its vast number of galleries or creative agencies. The whole city is vibrant and inspiring, and with every turn it unlocks its secrets. It also has become a huge foodie destination with many fabulous restaurant’s such as 64 Degrees, Etch, The Ivy in the Lanes and Terre a Terre, to name but a few.
House prices in the area are on the pricey side but with that you get a cosmopolitan lifestyle. Could you see yourself enjoying Friday night cocktails at Bohemia, with dinner at the Ivy, followed by a show at the Theatre Royal? I could. I think it would be hard for anyone not to fall in love with this awe-inspiring city.
Here are a few exciting new business ventures that are carving a niche into Brighton’s untapped potential…
Boho Gelato have been producing top quality Italian style ice cream and sorbet on site in Brighton for 8 years. Our showroom is set on the famous Kingsway – the coastal road that runs from Brighton Pier to Portslade – and is just west of Hove Lagoon. The architecture is distinctly ‘beachy’ too, with a white-rendered façade and large windows to let the light flood in from the seafront. Above us are a few coastal sea-side apartments, which give Neptune Hove even more of a homely atmosphere.
To give you a bit of a background to Neptune Hove, we adore good quality materials and we respect traditional craft as much as modern making. From kitchens to bedrooms, from natural oak to hand-painted finishes, from lighting to florals, and from dressers to beds, this is our whole home concept.
Whether you want to start the design process yourself or prefer to visit us in Hove to get the ball rolling, we are here to help you every step of the way. Our fully trained team of designers will discuss your lifestyle and setting to make sure they create a bespoke room design that perfectly suits your needs.

“In my twenties, I suffered from eczema and rosacea, and never once attributed it to the products I was using. It was only after I experienced an extremely bad reaction that I started to concern myself with what I put on my skin. Therein began my journey to creating my own product that I could safely use daily, knowing it was made from the purest and highest-grade ingredients,” says Mary-Rose Lobo, Founder of SKINIRVANA Pure Bliss Beauty oils.
Each formulation is hand-poured, 100% natural, chemical-free, never tested on animals, vegan and contains over 95% ingredients from organic origin.
