ARUNDEL: MEDIEVAL MAGIC IN THE HEART OF SUSSEX

ARUNDEL: MEDIEVAL MAGIC IN THE HEART OF SUSSEX

Steeped in rich history, Arundel is easily one of the most beautiful towns in Sussex. Stunning townhouses sit neatly next to medieval buildings, whilst cobbled streets retain the charm of days gone by.

Arundel has long been known for it’s stunning medieval castle that dates back to Christmas day 1067, when it was established by Roger de Montgomery who was given the Earldom of Arundel by William the Conqueror. Later in history the castle was owned by the Duke of Norfolk, uncle of Anne Boleyn and famed for his part in Anne Boleyn’s pursuit of King Henry VIII.

These days Arundel is famed for it’s shopping, culture and it’s bustling food scene, with a number of exquisite individual restaurants coexisting with larger food chains and serving great quality local produce. You will also find a great range of contemporary art galleries, delicious fudge stores and beautiful antique shops. However, if it is the unusual that catches your eye then there are some real hidden gems such as Sparks Yard or Pots and Posies which offer unique gifts and beautiful homeware inspiration.

Arundel has something for everyone, it is perfect for families as there is so much to do. There is a fabulous lido which is always busy in the summer months or if family picnics are your thing then head to Swanbourne lake, the scenery is breathtaking and there is the option to take out a row boat. Lastly you can end your day by taking a tour around the beautiful Wildfowl and wetlands trust.
