SKINIRVANA: THE BEAUTY GAME CHANGER
Journalist turned skin care expert, Mary Rose Lobo, is the creator of luxury brand, Skinirvana. After having a severe reaction to a commercial brand, she started paying attention to the ingredients that these famous brands contain. Horrified by the results, Mary decided that there must be a better solution and set about making her own line of products to address the skincare issues that she had been plagued with during her twenties, such as Eczema and Rosacea.
Mary had a clear vision for the brand. Firstly, the products needed to be 100% natural and non-toxic as Mary is passionate about the environment. Secondly, they needed to be safe and affordable. Lastly the products need to be effective and teach people that the choices that we make regarding what we put onto our bodies have an impact on our skin, so it needs to feed the face rather than overload it with chemicals.
At first Mary targeted friends and family to test the home blended oils, which were met with rave reviews. After the initial success, she realised that there was more to the products than just the oil. With that in mind, Mary took a facial massage course and is now an advocate of the massage rituals that keep wrinkles at bay and skin looking taunt. So with a strong passion for skincare and nutrition, and through sheer hard work, Skinirvana was launched. A range of the most luxurious beauty oils that promise to not only regenerate but re-hydrate tired skin. Pure Bliss original oil is amazing, it contain Juniper berry, Neroli and Rose, the smell is divine and leaves your skin feeling so soft. There is also a delicate formula which is perfect for sensitive skin and throughout pregnancy.
I caught up with Mary to find out what makes Skinirvana stand out from the crowd.
Where did the idea to start the brand Skinirvana come from?
When I was younger I was totally obsessed with skincare products, always buying expensive brands that promised the sought after youthful glow. That stopped when I had an allergic reaction to a well known french brand.
What is your mission statement?
I always suggest purchasing a good pure product, however it is also about the application. Always do the skin rituals to get maximum results.
Who is your typical client?
My typical client is usually 35-45 and conscious that their skin is not what it used to be. Obviously a big part of that is diet, however the chemicals in the skin products that they use also play a massive part. As well as selling my oils I have also created bespoke facial treatments, which I offer from my home in Hove. To finish the treatment I show the clients how to master the skin rituals at home.
What challenges have you faced starting the business?
Starting a skincare brand was never going to be easy, my background was actually journalism. It then took me three years to blend the right product. At the beginning I had no training, just a belief in my idea. Once I had established the product, I then completed a facial massage course to offer the best treatment to go with the Pure Bliss Oil. I trialled the products with friends and family, and once I knew that the product was perfected it was time to launch.
I am a risk taker, I always have been, so I rented a room in a salon. At that point I had no clients, but I didn't care as my mantra was 'build and they will come'. From there the business grew quickly.
And how did you overcome these challenges?
I think the biggest challenge is always with yourself. I have to remind myself that I am not in competition with anyone, my brand is unique and I believe in my product 110% as it worked for me and the results speak for themselves. I always believed it would work and that I could make it happen.

What is next?
Currently I am concentrating on Pure Bliss Boxes, they include Bliss Oil, eye masks, a candle, Audrey's Chocolates and a piece of Rebekah Ann Jewellery. I wanted to create an amazing gift box, perfect for Christmas or birthday presents. I have also created a box for brides to use in the build up to their weddings. It is a really exciting time for the brand.
What makes you stand out from your competition?
I am selective with the ingredients that I use. Everything is 100% natural and I source the purest oils. Although it is not just about the product, it is also about the application and showing people how to use the product to get the best from it. That is what makes Skinirvana stand out!
What did you do before?
I worked in journalism for ITV and Channel 4.
What are your favourite products?
My own. They worked for me and I wouldn't ever use anything else.
