LAZY LUNCH AT BRIGHTON'S PASCERE RESTAURANT
After an arduous morning shopping in Brighton, I headed to the lanes to try Pascere, Brighton's latest foodie obsession. Inside is incredibly beautiful, from the sumptuous Teal and Mustard velvet seating to the contrasting yellow flowers that adorn each table. Pascere is a lavish, sophisticated take on Art Deco style.
After being shown to our seats, I order a crisp glass of 2015 Prosecco, Guistino B Ruggeri, a great choice for lazy lunch. We glance at the menu and are seduced by what is on offer, the menu is a crowd pleaser, from the delicate starters such as cured trout with horseradish creme fraiche and herb salad to the pan roasted lamb rump. Pascere is a celebration of food.
After much deliberation, the set power lunch seemed like the obvious choice. To kick off our Pascere culinary journey, we ordered a humble heritage tomato, smoked burrata, basil, tomato essence and olive crumb salad. the dish is brought to the table and looks like sunshine in a bowl, beautifully garnished to perfection. The taste was an explosion of Italian burrata cheese and colourful fresh juicy tomatoes, bite after delightful bite it was a truly magnificent dish.
The staff were really accommodating, and we were even given the most delicious homemade bread rolls that I have ever tried, served with a splendid muscovado and black salt butter, that had me wanting to lick the plate clean.
When my main of choice, pork cheek was sold out, I was offered the superb substitute of pan roasted lamb rump, with fresh pea and wilted English lettuce, orzo, mint, roscoff onion and rosemary jus. I have to say that this was another belter of a dish, I simply couldn't fault it. The lamb was cooked to absolute perfection, perfectly pink on the inside and melted like butter in the mouth. The pea and wilted English lettuce were fresh and flavoursome, the whole combination was dazzling, a real treat.
Every dish offered today was a mouth-watering surprise. Pascere's ambitious menu is of the highest standard and certainly lives up to its hype. Is Pascere Brighton's coolest restaurant? Maybe. One thing is for sure, Pascere is definitely setting the pace among the foodie scene and should be on everyone's hip-list.
