LOWENNA AESTHETICS: MICRO-NEEDLING, LETS GET TO THE POINT
Micro-needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy is a revolutionary new procedure that involves continuously puncturing hundreds of tiny sterile needles into the skin with either a Dermapen or a Derma Roller.
I say it is revolutionary as it has recently been thrown into the limelight, however it is not a new trend. Apparently micro-needling has been around for over fifty years with the process continually evolving.
Rumour has it, that micro-needling treats everything from dull skin to scars, stretch marks and even skin discolouration. It is possible however to treat heavily acne scarred skin. With several sessions there is a possibility of seeing up to an 80% reduction in the scarring.
The concept behind the procedure allows the tiny puncture holes to absorb powerful serums into the skin, which then pushes the skin into healing itself by stimulating collagen production. After the procedure you are able to carry on as normal, the only two rules that apply are no make up or face creams for twenty four hours, apart from the serum that is provided by your aesthetic nurse.
Some would think of micro-needling as an entry level cosmetic procedure; another way for the women of today to part with their hard earned cash in their quest for youthfulness.
My own stance on the anti-ageing process is one of readiness. I do not want to grow old gracefully, it is more a case of I want to be frozen in time. I like how I look now, I simply dont want to change, why should I be ashamed of that?! Read on to hear about my micro-needling experience after deciding to take the plunge.
Before you have any procedure, the most important thing is to find the best aesthetic nurse. My choice of aesthetic nurse was simple, it was an easy choice. I had heard only great things about Emily Jackson, owner of Lowenna Aesthetics. Her reviews speak for themselves. Not only is Emily a registered nurse, Emily also carries out the cosmetic procedures in the comfort of your own home. For me, this is invaluable as it is easier to relax. Don't be fooled into thinking that this means that the health & safety aspect is compromised, as Emily is the upmost professional, everything is sterile and clean.
From the off, Emily made me feel totally relaxed, she spent time talking me through the procedure. Any nerves or preconceptions vanished. Firstly a numbing cream was applied to my skin, Emily gently rolled the dermapen over my entire face, even the delicate areas such as around the eyes and nose. There was no excess blood and unlike some of the horror stories imply, it really didn't hurt, it simply tickled.
The whole process took around forty minutes. Straight after the procedure my skin was slightly red, however there was a new found tightness that hadn't been there since my teenage years. I was given two sachets of serum to put on my skin in the twenty four hours following the micro-needling and the products used during the procedure felt amazing against my skin. I am told that it is a product called Genosys.
Hours later after the redness had gone, my skin had a new found glow. Emily had informed me that my skin will only get better over the coming weeks once the collagen production kicks in. The after care was amazing too, Emily kept in touch to make sure I was completely happy with the procedure.
Would I recommend this procedure? Of course. The results speak for themselves. Micro-needling has made my skin plump and youthful again. The pictures above show before and after the procedure. It is not as expensive as Botox and is perfect for a reasonably quick fix. Emily was great, very knowledgeable and incredibly professional. She is also qualified to administer Botox and carry out Dermaplaning.
